The Empire State Building was born in 1931 from a race to see which builder could make the tallest skyscraper. The Empire State Building only took 20 months to complete. Some houses take that long, and the Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper. Here are a few facts about the Empire State Building that I bet you didn’t know:
The upper tower of the Empire State Building was first an airship mooring.
In 1945, a B-25 bomber crashed into the Empire State Building, creating massive damage.
Because of this crash, a woman fell 75 stories from an elevator in the Empire State Building. She survived, but she now has a broken neck and back.
In the early 1970s, there were plans to increase the height of the Empire State Building by 11 stories, but they decided the Empire State Building was tall enough.
In 1983, the Empire State Building had an inflatable gorilla on it for the anniversary of the film, “King Kong,” but sadly it got a hole in it, and they trashed it.
